HDTV Info - High Definition Television

HDTV stands for High Definition TeleVision. Put simply it is a television with a higher level of detail in the display than a standard definition television. There are several HDTV standards, some giving higher resolutions than others. The resolution of a HDTV is a measure of how much detail the set can display. A TV display is made up of hundreds of thousands of tiny dots. The higher the resolution of the TV set, the more dots there are, and the more detail the set can display.

There are several display technologies used for HDTV. These are rapidly evolving and improving all the time as manufacturers strive for better and cheaper displays.

Plasma HDTV Plasma was one of the first production flat screen technologies.
LCD HDTV LCD panels can be used to produce HDTV sets.
