Features

VCD (Video CD) CD based format, playable on many standalone DVD players and PCs with a CD ROM drive and software decoder. Standalone VCD players also exist, but are rare in Europe and the USA.
SVCD (Super Video CD) An enhancement of the VCD standard giving better sound and picture quality, but still using CDs. This format is also playable on many DVD players and PCs.
DVD DVDs store high quality audio and video on a disc the size of a CD. DVDs can be played on DVD players (obviously!) and also on PCs with a DVD-ROM drive and an appropriate software decoder.
Digital Video Cassette (DV, DVC) Digital Video Cassette is a format commonly used in home digital camcorders. It stores high quality video and audio in a small cassette tape.
